How to Start a Woodworking Business Quickly

Woodworking can be an excellent way to generate a quick side income if you are struggling during this economic recession. A lot of people who may have lost their jobs are looking to the Internet for a means to make money, but not many people consider woodworking to be a viable option. Sure, it may sound difficult to those with absolutely zero construction experience, but that simply is not the case at all. Woodworking can be quickly learned, is enjoyable, and can even be quite profitable.

All you need to start a woodworking business is a small space to work, some tools, and wood, of course! Oh, and do not forget to look up some woodworking plans on the Internet to help you get started. With such low overhead costs, just about anyone with a space to work and the right equipment can begin designing beautiful and valuable wooden creations to sell to family, friends and on the Internet.

Carefully go through the plans you have chosen for your first project once you have your workspace and tools together. You should try to choose a project that is not too difficult, and most online plans grade the type of project as easy, difficult or intermediate. The reason you should start with an easy project at first is that you may not yet possess the experience or skills to design more complex works. Plus, you want to be able to flip your projects for cash, so you want to start with something that is easy to make and will bring in a decent profit margin.

Because they only consist of four corners and a roof, I recommend bird houses as an initial project. Basically all you have to do is design a box with an entrance, then attach it to a tree for a functioning bird house. Of course, as you gain experience you can try out new techniques to make your bird houses more appealing, but you would be surprised how much people would pay for even a simple, handmade bird house. Other projects that are popular among beginners are simple toys and dog houses.

Once you have achieved a skill level where you can create decent quality projects, you can either list them on auction sites like eBay, or you can sell them locally. The more experience you gain, you may eventually become able to handle antique restoration projects.

I hope this article has provided some insight on how to go about starting a woodworking business, but if you still need guidance, please check out my wood profits review where I cover the latest Wood Profits business course.
